Single mothers have had it rough during the recession. Their unemployment rate hit a 25-year high, just under 15 percent, in the midst of the recovery. That’s since come down, and last month’s jobs report even showed a continuing decline to 11.3 percent. But news out today darkens that picture. Just as these moms are trying to get back to work, states are backtracking on the childcare support so many of them depend on. A report released today from the National Women’s Law Center shows that childcare assistance policies worsened in 27 states as compared to last year, making it the second year in a row in which things got worse instead of better. Not only that, but the situation is even crappier compared to a decade ago.
